Q. What is Mental Judo?
A. Mental Judo is the means of gaining great power in your
interactions with others no matter how powerful or weak you may feel you are now. Mental
Judo is a way to improve yourself as well as to improve the way you communicate with other
people. It is an all around discipline which can be used to increase self-control and
inner strength. MENTAL JUDO can make you many times more effective and persuasive with
other people.
Q. You say that the weakest, least effective person can become
powerful through MENTAL JUDO without using force or intimidation. How can this be?
A. Most of us use only a fraction of our power potential. MENTAL
JUDO enables us to unleash close to our total power and get it working for us.
Q. More specifically, how do you go about it?
A. MENTAL JUDO unleashes your power in two ways. It helps you remove
the blocks that prevent you from using your power and it teaches you concepts and
techniques so you can harness that power more effectively.
Q. You distinguish between two parts of the mind. They are called
the analytical and emotional minds. What are they and what is their relative importance in
MENTAL JUDO?
A. In MENTAL JUDO we give the name analytical mind to our ability
to analyze, reason, solve problems and plan ; the emotional mind to our experience of
feelings and emotions. Those who are skilled in MENTAL JUDO draw on both their analytical
and emotional sides almost all the time. But, from time to time, one side or the other
takes control. If one of our emotional buttons has been pushed we think and react
primarily on the basis of the feeling aroused by that button. Our emotional mind is
guiding our behavior. Or, if the analytical side gains control our feeling side is shut
off and we act coldly, ignoring various human factors. Both sides are important. The aim
of MENTAL JUDO is to help keep a harmonious mix of the analytical and emotional sides of
the mind so that both feelings and thoughts guide reactions.
Q. How did MENTAL JUDO originate?
A. The seeds were planted in Lance Lager's youth. He was a fly
weight who didn't like being pushed around . Looking for ways to deal with heavyweight
bullies, he learned about physical Judo. When Lance entered the business world, shy,
lacking confidence, he started applying some of the physical Judo to the workings of the
mind. It worked and MENTAL JUDO developed into a whole discipline that brought success to
himself and many others that he trained over the years. More recently Dr. Kraft and he
have expanded MENTAL JUDO so that it has applications to most human activities.
Q. Can everyone get something out of MENTAL JUDO?
A. Literally yes. Regardless of your profession, age or experience,
MENTAL JUDO can help you become more powerful, successful and fulfilled in your business,
personal and family life.
Q. Is MENTAL JUDO manipulative?
A. No. When we use the word manipulation, we think of exploiting
someone else's weaknesses in order to reach our goal. In MENTAL JUDO, as in physical judo,
the number one prerequisite is always having a good, positive motive. Instead of
exploiting weaknesses, the MENTAL JUDO practitioner strives to bring out the best in his
opponent by keeping his mind open so a mutually successful conclusion can be reached.
Q. Bud Wilkinson, the renowned former coach of the University of
Oklahoma, speaks of MENTAL JUDO as a carefully constructed code of conduct for
interpersonal relationships; Dr. Annis Wasfi, a well known psychiatrist, speaks of MENTAL
JUDO as a way to transcend to higher levels. Tell us about that.
A. MENTAL JUDO is a way of life. It shows you how to open the minds
of others. It can greatly improve your ability to be effective, so effective that you will
stand out in a crowd as a winner. At the same time, it will teach you how to build strong,
positive relationships with your peers and superiors.
Q. What does MENTAL JUDO have to do with physical well being?
A. As we all know the mind and the body are intimately related; one
affects the other. MENTAL JUDO helps you improve your physical health by giving you a way
to rid yourself of negative thoughts and influences. It can show you ways to avoid
conflict and confrontation with others. A positive mental attitude plus reduced stress and
upset makes for better physical health.
